Where are we Wednesday? #14

Masterton, NZ

The advanced party have made it to New Zealand! The kids & I are staying with mum for a few weeks and loving being back in the country after a 3 year break. The flight over, on Monday, was uneventful. It seemed really short (only 3 1/2 hours!) with movies, games, food & fizzy drink.

We caught up with my friend Eleanor and her family in  Wellington before catching the train to Masterton. Another short trip (1 hour, 45 minutes) used easily with reading & Minecraft.

We relaxed on Tuesday, finally buying the kids some winter pjs, and found ourselves at Henley Lake walking & talking to swans... Just like the ones we'd left behind in Gippsland (only slightly less amorous).

Wednesday was spent rediscovering our school books on the morning. Followed by some exercise in the afternoon. The kids enjoyed a visit to the local pool, complete with a flowing 'river' and waterside. I took the opportunity to go for a run through Queen Elizabeth Park across the road. It was lovely rediscovering a Kiwi park complete with lake, river, swing bridge, cricket oval, croquet lawn, pioneer cemetery and band rotunda. A drizzly cool day, perfect for running.

The evening was filled with board games from the past (anyone remember plain House?) reading aloud (we're reading 'We didn't mean to go to sea' and ironically we read the chapter 'Sleeping afloat') and watching 'The Simpsons' on TV.

Meanwhile, Giles is back in Melbourne rediscovering the joys of work for a couple of weeks enabling us to extend our sailing adventures by a couple of weeks into January 2016.
